This position is based out of the Redding clinic; the incumbent provides care across the system, with visits to Regional Clinics and needed. Telework may be available for a certain portion of the incumbents duties. Care is provided in person, over the phone, and via telehealth. Reviews and tracks all Suicide Attempts. Delivers EBPs for suicide prevention. Ensures timely follow up to all Veteran's Crisis Line calls in accordance with VACO requirements. Identifies Veterans that are at High Risk for suicide and assisting in the maintenance of the Facility High Risk List which ensures providers are aware of the Veteran and the Veteran is receiving clinically indicated treatment for his/her diagnosis and/or specific situational stressors. Assures that all Veterans on the Facility High Risk List are either offered enhanced treatment in accordance with VACO requirements and as determined by the coordinator and the provider or that appropriate outreach efforts are being made to engage Veteran in treatment. Tracks any no-show appointments by these patients and follows up with the patient and/or provider as soon as possible to reschedule the appointment. Ensures Veterans who are identified by the REACH Vet algorithm are offered treatment which is appropriate and clinically indicated. Interfaces with Psychiatric Inpatient Units to determine acuity of Veterans at risk for suicide, assisting with coordination of aftercare. Meets with Veterans that are to be Flagged as High Risk for Suicide, noting the purpose of the flag and helps to complete the appropriate suicide risk interventions. Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs in order to effectively coordinate services for complex High Risk Veterans. Completes applicable duties after a suicide or suicide attempt including Issue Briefs, Behavioral Autopsies, Family Interview Telephone Contact, Root Cause analysis and Postvention briefings. Maintains awareness of suicide treatment options, attends additional relevant trainings in order to make recommendations to the patient's provider to ensure best practices. Participates in the Patient Flag Review committee and other workgroups as directed by supervisor. BMJ 2005; 331) Making recommendations for referral of repeat attempters to a Home Tele-health program using the Depression or PTSD dialogues, as appropriate. Must meet one of the following:
(1) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a program approved by COAMFTE, (2) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a MFT program from a regionally accredited institution, OR, (3) Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in a comparable mental health degree (Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, and Psychiatry) that meets the current VA qualification standard of that profession. Licensure:
must hold a full, current, and unrestricted MFT license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State. A Master's Degree in Psychology does not meet the VA Handbook Standards for this occupation. English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed. Grade Determinations:
Experience, Education and Licensure. Must have successfully completed evidence based training in family therapy and must have graduated from a COAMFTE accredited program OR have passed the AMFTRE. Candidate must have at least five years of post-licensed clinical experience in delivery of family systems therapy including one-year equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. This experience must demonstrate the use of an evidence based family therapy model while exhibiting progressive professional competency and expertise. Assignments requiring responsibility for providing clinical supervision must have an AAMFT Approved Supervisor credential. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs below:
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to provide specialized consultation for complex cases involving individuals, families and/or couples utilizing evidenced-based family systems theory/therapy. Ability to provide crisis intervention which includes assessment, safety planning and complex treatment planning using independent clinical judgment utilizing family systems theory/therapy. Ability to provide family systems therapy, which seeks to address Veterans and their family members on an individual level and deals with interpersonal interactions. Ability to provide unlicensed MFT staff/trainees with systemic clinical supervision towards licensure from a family systems theory/therapy perspective. References:
