Degree:
Soil science or a closely related discipline that included 30 semester hours or equivalent in biological, physical, or earth science, with a minimum of 15 semester hours in such subjects as soil genesis, pedology, soil chemistry, soil physics, and soil fertility.; OR Combination of Education and
Experience:
Courses equivalent to a major in soil science or a related discipline that included at least 30 semester hours in the biological, physical, or earth sciences. At least 15 of these semester hours must have been in the areas specified above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-12:
You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined to include the following:
Provided knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of soil science applicable to soil management, classification, and mapping, sufficient to develop and execute soil management programs and activities on a unit; provided advice and assistance in related disciplines such as hydrology, geology, forestry, engineering, wildlife, and fisheries; offered knowledge of land management policies and procedures sufficient to ensure that plans and programs are consistent with agency policies and procedures related to soil sciences; used knowledge of soil management to relate surveys and studies to land management planning. For the GS-13:
You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined to include the following:
Provided guidance and assistance in the concepts, principles and practices in the fields of soil science, plant ecology, climatology and hydrology sufficient to develop and review soil resource programs and standards, assess current management abilities, develop management strategies, and develop inventory techniques pertinent to regional ecosystems; Applied knowledge of soil genesis, pedology, soil physics, soil chemistry, and soil fertility as well as inventory procedures, management interpretation, research methodology, laboratory and field techniques, and monitored procedures in order to develop and refine solutions or recommendations to complex problems; evaluated and applied new scientific findings to unit level programs, developments, and advances to soil management; and worked in partnership with researchers to expand knowledge of soil and ecosystem resources. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT:
If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Position Information:
The incumbent serves as the Regional Soil Scientist with responsibility for providing the scientific and technical leadership and overall management direction to the soil and watershed restoration programs and activities of the Region. These activities include, but are not limited to, the National Cooperative Soil Survey, soil management investigations, soil monitoring and special studies, soil interpretations, ecological unit inventory, soils data steward, and training of field specialists and users of soil information. It also includes watershed condition classification, watershed restoration action planning and implementation, watershed program input to the regional budget process, database management, and accountability tracking. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
