ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT Information Technology provides electronic data processing services to County departments including systems development and maintenance, computer programming, network management, computer operations, and personal computer support.
Information Technology also assists departments with the selection and acquisition of their computer systems and personal computers.
All telephone, voice mail, and related telecommunication equipment is installed, maintained, and upgraded by this department.
ABOUT THE POSITION The telephone Communications Technician works under the supervision of an IT Supervisor and is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing telephone communications equipment.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Telephone Communications Technician works under the supervision of the IT Supervisor and is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing telephone communications equipment.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES Install and repair single-line and multi-line telephone sets and associated equipment, paging systems.
Pre-wire buildings for voice and data.
Receive repair and installation requests for telephone systems.
Work alone to meet daily demands of telephone workload in a timely manner.
Assist in the design of telephone systems to meet user department needs and requirements.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience sufficient to directly demonstrate possession and application of the following:
Knowledge of:
Principles and procedures of installing, maintaining, repairing, operating, and testing of 1A2 KTS, Electronic KTX, Centrex, paging systems and private 2-line and 4-line telephone communications systems; telephone testing; Repair equipment; Reading floor plans and blueprints, Federal Communication Commission Rules and Regulations relating to telephone communications.
Ability to:
Install, remove ,and repair a wide variety of telephone systems and equipment; plan effective and economical uses of telephone communications; read floor plans and blueprints to accurately pre-wire; perform basic accounting procedures; understand and interpret applicable federal and state communication regulations.
The above employment standards are typically attained with three (3) years of experience installing and maintaining modern telephone systems and equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Possession of an appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record according to County policy.
